1988: Retrofitting a Flap Rudder for Ro/Pax "Vesterålen".

t

Since MS “Vesterålen” under captain Richard With became the first postal ship more than 100 years ago, the Hurtigruten fleet has been permanently enlarged and modernised. The fleet now consists of 9 ships and today´s MS “Vesterålen” represents one of the mid-generation ships. The Ro/Pax ferry was delivered by Harstadt shipyard in Norway in 1983, and is owned by OVDS for travelling on the Hurtigruten in the Scandinavian seas.

Becker delivered the flap rudder (order 1303), tailor-made for the 18.0 kn propulsion system, focussing on the high manoeuvrability required along the coasts and fjords as well as the demand for an economical rudder solution for postal service vessels.

VESTERÅLEN:
Length: 108.55 m
Breadth: 16.52 m
Draught: 4.60 m
Capacity: 550 Pax, 40 cars
Service speed: 18.0 kn
